MAD PAINTER!
~~~ ~~~~~~~
(C) 1991 By Steve Elder
Requirements:
~~~~~~~~~~~~
IBM computer or compatible with 512k Ram. (256k probably ok)
EGA or VGA video card and monitor.
Optional:
~~~~~~~~
Joystick.
Loading:
~~~~~~~
Insert the game disk. Be sure the DOS prompt shows the same drive letter
that you are using (if the DOS prompt shows "B:>" and you put the disk in
drive A, it won't work; type "A:" and press enter).
Type "PAINT" and press return. The game will load. The disk must remain
in the drive during play because the program needs to access it.
Note: MAD PAINTER may be installed on a hard drive by simply copying all
of the files to the desired directory. Again, be sure that when you run
it, the DOS prompt is displaying the correct directory (i.e. C:\games\>).
Options:
~~~~~~~
There are not very many options to worry about. At the main menu screen
you may choose to toggle the sound off or on (default is on) and whether
to play the game using the keyboard controls or a joystick (default is
keyboard). If you choose joystick, you will go to a calibration screen.
Press the #1 (or upper... or left... depending on the stick layout)
button. Then slowly move the stick to the extremes of it's travel in all
directions. When you've done this (be certain all the squares are filled)
press button #2. You will be returned to the main menu.
Controls:
~~~~~~~~
When playing using the keyboard controls, simply use the cursor (arrow)
keys to move your truck up, down, left and right. The space bar beeps the
horn.
The joystick (if chosen) moves your truck in the four directions, while the
horn is beeped with the joystick button.
To pause the game, press the Esc key. To quit (return to DOS) press the
Esc key while at the main menu or while the game is paused.
Gameplay:
~~~~~~~~
The objective of MAD PAINTER is to paint all the streets in town with your
new painting truck, while avoiding the crazed car drivers. To paint,
simply drive. The truck paints automatically. If you drive over fresh
paint it doesn't matter. What does matter, however, are the cars! Avoid
them at all costs. A collision with one of them ends the game. They
are more plentiful and vicious as you progress through the levels.
Occasionally, a cloud will come from out of the north and drift through
town. When this cloud passes over a section of street you've painted
it washes the paint away (turns it gray) and that section must be
repainted.
When you've completely painted the town, you advance a level and begin
again in a new area.
Tips:
~~~~
When a cloud comes through, it just washes away the paint DIRECTLY
underneath it. Sometimes it will just wash away half of your dotted line.
This can be hard to spot sometimes. Any paint the cloud has affected
will be gray.
Your horn will sometimes cause the cars to change direction. If one is
on a collision course with you or right on your tail, sound your horn.
It's worth a try!
